Flex appeal!
Friday, January 09, 2009 By Andrew W. Davis Ford fields the 21st Century's first neo-Family Truckster
What took you so long?
Seriously. Why is it that we had to suffer through the whole SUV craze-and a gas "crisis"-before you came up with an attractive vehicle that comfortably seats seven and their stuff?
Well, regardless, you've done well.

Volvo's not about revolution; they're pure (justified) evolution
Regular readers know about my allegiance to Volvo, but for the rest of you, let me just say this: I love Volvo wagons.
Actually, let me rephrase that. I love a particular Volvo wagon, my beloved "Amy."

This Challenger shows why they call car salesmen "dealers"
My name is Andrew and I have a problem.
I started driving the Challenger recreationally, you know, just to get to work and back. But before I knew it I was using it all the time, lying to my family about errands that didn't need running to faraway stores when whatever I was "needing" could be had nearby.
Maybe it was the HEMI, or maybe it was its looks; but for whatever reason I got hooked on the Challenger, even though it's gone back to its maker, it fills my mind with an indescribable rush whenever I even glance at pavement.

The original "big rig" pickup puts its best (new) face forward
I want one of these. Bad. Even though I don't need a truck (and wouldn't be unable to justify its purchase to the wife anyway).

For all you Saab-ophiles out there, here's all you need to know about the new 9-3 Convertible: It's powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, it looks all wedge-shaped and aircraft-sleek (especially up front where it counts) and - most importantly - it has its ignition slot down between the front seats where God and all the trolls in Tröllhatten intended.
For the rest of you, I'll say this: Saabs have always been different. But different - in this case at least - is in no way bad. And for anyone who automatically thinks "weird" when they hear the name Saab you're only right about the old ones. You know, like the ones way back two years ago.

GM does an admirable job "greening-up" its full-size SUVs
How did we get here?
Sure, we left our station wagons for vans for minivans for SUVs, but when did it become de rigeur for those SUVs to be so bloody huge?
I don't want to take anything away from this particular vehicle, but when did we as a populace start driving - to the point of becoming accustomed to - these massive steel behemoths?
